What fascinates you so much about Halloween and when did your fascination begin?

I grew up in Michigan and always loved trick or treating with my sister when we were younger. As I got older, the trick or treating transitioned to going to haunted forests, hayrides, and houses. The more I went to, the less I got scared, but the joy and entertainment became from watching how my friends reacted and how good the props were.

What do you hope to pass on to your kids in regard to your love for Halloween?

I want him to understand how it is such a great Holiday because we get to not only enjoy it with our family but also our friends and neighbors. Last year he was 6 for Halloween, there was tons of excitement about our decorations, but he also loved giving out candy as much or more than receiving it when he was trick or treating.

I've got a 7-year-old son who loves looking at the Halloween decor. When I show him images of designs, and he'll tell me they don't "look scary enough" or that I "have to change the eyes to make them scarier." We're working from home. so he gets a lot of sneak peeks.

I love seeing how creative people get with the 12-foot skeleton. You know it's a fun product when everyone's playing around with it. Someone took the skeleton on the beach, someone was driving home the giant skeleton on this little Mini Cooper, and I saw another picture of the skeleton set up on a fire escape in Chelsea.

I love taking stuff out of classic movies that people never get tired of. For Halloween, we watch "Hocus Pocus" and classic slasher things like "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Friday the 13th." I've watched them at least six times each.

Many of the decorations are from previous years. I still love my Raven & Chain Halloween Wreath and I have the Spider Web Topiaries flanking the front door again this year. If you look closely, you can spy my Mod Podged Damask Pumpkin on the ledge and I adore my Halloween Candelabra. Artist Bethany Lowe designs holiday decorations with nostalgic appeal inspired by her love of antiques and life living on a farm in a small community in the Midwest. Family life included participating in mummers day Halloween parades, Christmas caroling, ice skating and horse drawn sleigh rides.

Bethany Lowe loved to draw and sculpt even at a young age. Her first grade teacher was so impressed, he kept one of her sculptures to use as an example to show other art students over the years. She has had the honor to be chosen on three occasions to make folk art decorations for Christmas at the White House. Now the really fun part! Styling your mat. I love to layer my rugs and finish it off with all the Halloween fun like disco balls, pumpkins, spiders, fall foliage, and of course a Pearl and Jane garland.

They look pretty convincing and I love the variation in size and posture. They have wire at the bottom of the feet you can use to wrap around branches (I added more floral wire to wrap around the top of the bottle).

Just in time for the spookiest day of all, Jamie & Brad celebrated their wedding this past weekend with a Halloween themed reception at Meadowview Convention Center & Resort . It's Lazer straight on hyzer flips and has a great s-turn flight when thrown flat. I just ordered two more and I have a feeling they're going to replace every driver in my bag. Halo plastic for an overstable flight, g-star for neutral/straight flight, and my old beat up disc for turn overs and hyzer flips. Crazy how quickly you can fall in love with a piece of plastic.

The first book I want to recommend this spooky season is One for Sorrow: A Ghost Story by Mary Downing Hahn, a former school librarian who writes lots of scary books I\u2019ve loved, like Took and Wait Till Helen Comes. This one is set in 1918, during the Spanish influenza. Annie Brown is new at school, and before she has a chance to meet the other girls, Elsie Schneider claims her as her best friend. The other girls don\u2019t like Elsie\u2014they say she\u2019s a tattletale, a liar, a cheat, and a thief. Soon Annie begins to agree with them and bullies Elsie too. After all, Elsie\u2019s father is a German\u2014an enemy in a war overseas. Elsie dies from the flu, and spooky things start to happen, maybe the revenge of Elsie\u2019s ghost! I love this book because it\u2019s a great story, very spooky, and it\u2019s also realistic at the same time. The writer was actually inspired by a story her mother used to tell her about growing up in Baltimore during the same time period.

Dory Fantasmagory: Can\u2019t Live Without You by Abby Hanlon is a hilarious, goofily spooky book the whole family loved. Dory learns that Mozart is dead, and then gets scared that her mom is going to abandon her, or maybe even die, and so she starts to wear a locket with her mom\u2019s picture in it. She says if her mom dies, she\u2019ll trap her ghost in the locket, but it will be a friendly ghost. Of course Mrs. Gobblegracker arrives, and then a babysitter that all the kids try to scare\u2026 like all the Dory books, you just have to read it to get it. Preferably out loud! e24fc04721
