競技かるたで使用する「百人一首」。今から800年ほど前に藤原定家(ふじわらのさだいえ)によって、100人の歌人が心を込めて詠まれた歌を厳選したものです。「百人一首」は、恋の歌や季節に関わる歌など、当時の人々が感じた思いといった古典の世界観を時代を超えて、現代の人々が競技かるたというスポーツを通して伝えられています。

"Hyakunin isshu" is used in competitive Karuta. It is a carefully selected collection of poems composed by 100 poets about 800 years ago by Fujiwara no Sadaie. "Hyakunin isshu" is a collection of classical worldviews, such as love songs, seasonal songs, and the feelings of the people of that time. It is passed on by modern people through the sport of Competitive Karuta.

藤原定家(ふじわらのさだいえ)が厳選し、100首の歌を集めて完成させた日が1235年5月27日であったことにより、「百人一首の日」とされています。

On May 27, 1235, Fujiwara no Sadaie collected 100 poems carefully selected and completed them, and this was called "Hyakunin isshu Day."

5月27日が「百人一首の日」とされた理由として…

The reason why May 27 was designated as' the day of Hyakunin Isshu' is as follows...

「定家の日記『明月記』の文暦二年（一二三五）五月二七日条に、定家がその子為家の舅の宇都宮頼綱（蓮生）から依頼されて、その嵯峨中院山荘の障子に貼るために（中略）歌人の歌を色紙に書いて贈った、とある記事が『小倉百人一首』の成立に関連深いものとされ、それが『小倉百人一首』そのものの成立を示すという説と、その草稿本といわれる『百人秀歌』（『小倉百人一首』と九七首が一致。後鳥羽院と順徳院の歌は含まない）をさすという説とがある。」（『日本大百科全書』 より抜粋）

このような説により、百人一首が世に広まったのではないかとされる日が５月２７日とされている。
