Asbestos is natural. It is a naturally occurring mineral found in stalactites, the most obvious evidence of this being the white, shingly rock used for sheet rock. It is also used in insulation, wall insulation, decoration etc. Asbestos is used as insulation as it is very strong and reliable. Its asbestos removal properties include lending a very useful reflectivity factor when placed at a pointed angle. Admired from its ability to be used in the building industry it was often used as an insulation in the consumer and commercial construction industries up until the mid- 1970's when it became illegal to use it in this manner. Asbestos is natural and can be found in high quantities in areas that are prone to earthquakes. How it was distributed and where it was used is the subject of much debate. At that time the use of asbestos insulation was brought into problems through vermiculite insulation which was an avenue of traffic.

The advantage of the method of asbestos abatement is that it is quite simple to carry out. So the cost of removing asbestos is a lot less than a media based campaign would suggest for its definition.
The way in which a host of Ministry of Health jobs have worked into the newly formed responsibility of the government is that the asbestos removal officials are expected to ensure homeowners of new properties get the proper abatement and removal. The pressure on the Home Information Pack has resulted in a recent tightening in the requirements.
The use of the HIP can be determined in a number of ways, yet the documentation contained in the HIP is only a single sheet of paper (the Home Information Pack). In addition to the single sheet of paper, the HIP includes Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), Property Information Questionnaire (PIQ), Sales Statement and fertilisation agreements. The Energy Performance Certificate gives the property a rating in terms of efficiency and for energy consumption per square metre, and different properties will have different asbestos removal ratings.
