On June 30, 2026, I was the featured poet for the Open Mic Night sponsored by the Florence Arts & Museum. This is a monthly event that showcases a featured poet, while also allowing audience members to share their poems during the open mic session. Each month's event gives a prompt that the featured poet and other participants can use, but aren't obligated to if they prefer to just share other original work. I wrote a series of original poems based on the prompt of Pets and Animals, but also shared poems inspired by naming traditions and patterns. This poem  - A Rose is Still a Rose...Until -  is one of the poems based on the latter. 

This is a flash fiction story I wrote on August 29, 2019 for my graduate-level creative writing class at UNA. I think of it both as a flash fiction story or a flash fiction poem. Either way, it's a fictional exploration of how a mother's penchant for hoarding impacts her relationship with her daughters and the way they behave in their adult life.
