Personal story but use fresh powerful images created instead of rely on family pictures. Not self-indulgent.
Powerful message yet still leaves it vague enough to draw differing conclusions.
Brilliant action scenes. There are actually TWO boxing fight scenes, woven together so expertly, you might not realize it at first. I think it was shot using cheap cameras like ours, the dark tones are all washed out. But such amazing editing and camera angles and steadicam work.
Great acting.
But the lack of subtitles is puzzling.
Unforgettable story of a father and son that bring humanity to a maligned group.
Comic but meaningful take a of an immigrant's single day in Netherlands.
Short but meaningful.
High production values and great acting. The actress playing the Afghan character is not Afghan but completely fooled me.
A complete story with a satisfying end. Doesn't just drop you in middle of nowhere like so many shorts do.
Great character development in only 13 mins and only chopped up conversation.
I like the compactness of the story. The story needs more. Yes, it has the twist. But something more is needed, which I can't figure out.
Powerful writing and decent performance for the voiceover. Difficult to watch. Mikey's character very real and performed well.
I liked the early flashbacks. Tiny quick slits but effective and meaningful.
Great use of sound to build suspense. Yes, I would murder to coach, not swim for him.
Great acting. Totally believable.
Director's notes taught me a lot. The best lesson was that even with all scenes happening in or around a single location, there's still so much you need to worry about. Just making the few seconds of police siren happening, for example.
Compelling cinematography , editing and sound design powerfully depict an immigrant's pain and thereby render him more than just a label.
Tight script. Great acting. Good story, although I keep thinking the ending could be improved, like there should be something more serious should happen to the characters.

This old Chinese short has a twist and a moral lesson on the indifference of society to injustice.
I am would love to come up with a similar story on the society's indifference toward the Trump era plight of immigrants, being pulled away from their lives and families.
