Dr. Aline Vandenbroeck

I am a health policy scholar with thematic expertise in women's health, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and health equity. I am an incoming postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Economics at Ghent University, where my research is supported by a competitive grant from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO).

My scholarship examines the impacts of health policies on healthcare access and delivery, population health and well-being, as well as how policy effects are distributed across populations. A central contribution of my work is identifying sources of policy failure, including when policies fall short of their intended goals or generate negative spillover effects. I also identify socially patterned inequities in healthcare access and health outcomes—particularly across migration status and race/ethnicity—and highlight how these disparities point to opportunities for targeted policy interventions. My work aims to inform the design of more effective and equitable health policies.

I use interdisciplinary approaches, combining legal epidemiology with state-of-the-art causal inference methods and drawing on concepts and theories from economics, public health, and sociology. I have extensive experience working with administrative records, medical claims, and survey data, as well as leading original data collection efforts.
