I am an Associate Professor of International Relations at the Department of International Relations, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, where I currently serve as the Program Secretary for the Doctoral Program of Islamic Politics - Master’s Program in International Relations. I also lead the International Nusantara Research Centre Yogyakarta and serve as Editor-in-Chief of Perantau: Journal of Migration, Borders, and Belonging.
My academic journey includes research fellowships at several esteemed institutions. I was awarded the Taiwan Fellowship by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and conducted research at National Chengchi University in Summer 2018. In August 2022, I was a research fellow at the Centre for Policy Research and International Studies (CenPRIS), Universiti Sains Malaysia. I am a research fellow at Kangwon National University under the 2024–2025 International Scholar Exchange Fellowship, supported by the Chey Institute of Advanced Studies, Republic of Korea.
My research focuses on International Relations in Southeast Asia, with particular interests in foreign policy, Southeast Asian studies, and migration studies. I also maintain broader academic interests in South Asia and the Islamic world.
My scholarly work has appeared in numerous internationally indexed journals, including Springer Journals, Journal of Social Research and Policy, The International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences: Annual Review, Journal of Social, Political and Economic Studies, Revista UNISCI, Kajian Malaysia: Journal of Malaysian Studies, Southeast Asia Research, Social Sciences and Humanities Open, and International Area Studies Review, among others.
I have been invited to review for several reputable academic journals such as the Journal of International Migration and Integration (Springer), TRaNS: Trans-Regional and -National Studies of Southeast Asia (Cambridge University Press), University of Wah Journal of Social Sciences (Pakistan), PLOS ONE (Public Library of Science, USA), Global Change, Peace & Security (Taylor & Francis), Kajian Malaysia, and the Asian and Pacific Migration Journal, among others.
I hold a Ph.D. in International Studies from Universiti Sains Malaysia (2016), an M.A. in International Relations from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (2011), and a B.A. in Public Administration from Universitas Hang Tuah (2006).
