Freshwater fish farming plays an important role in rural livelihoods in India, and its production contributes to the livelihoods and employment of millions In India. The culture and consumption of fish therefore has important implications for national food and nutrition security, poverty and growth. India has gained self-sufficiency in terms of agricultural production, the population is growing and will reach million. This is reflected by the negative growth rate of extensive fish production method. As the industry is shifting from extensive to intensive production method, there will be more prevalence of disease requiring medicines and chemicals for supporting intensive fish farming methods. As a result, the need for advisory services in aquaculture and fish feed would markedly increase in the upcoming decade in India & West Bengal.
