Favorite Service Project

My favorite service project was my first time doing Hands Across Duluth. I was nervous because I didn't know what to expect. Thankfully I got to bring a friend with me. We did many things like help weed plants and help with a garden at the Fond du Lac Reservation, clean up and help at the Bike Cave, make food for Loaves and Fishes, stand up paddle boarding, go swimming, and a lot more. I was nervous at first, but I had a lot of fun with my friend. It was a great experience! I like to help others and completing those projects made me feel good. I felt good knowing that I was able to help and see what we could all get done together. The second time I went, I also had fun. I helped paint a door at Loaves and Fishes, weeded the garden there too, painted a fence, and I also learned how difficult it is to be homeless from the people at CHUM. We only had thirty dollars to spend and we had to choose what we needed wisely. It gave me more insight on what it was like to be homeless. I felt an immense amount of sadness for the people who have to go through that. I'm so grateful for everything I have. That year we focused a lot on loving our neighbors and I definitely did. My two experiences at HAD were fun and every time it's over, I just feel a sense of accomplishment. Knowing that I helped someone out and making them happy because of that really fills me with peace.
