Astrochemistry at the Epoch of Planet Formation

The molecular make-up of nearby disks

Gallery of integrated intensity maps of molecular lines in the HD 100546 disk (Booth et. al. under review).

The elemental composition of a planet's atmosphere is determined by the disk material it accretes. We mapped the gas in the vicinity of the forming giant planet
HD 169142 b with ALMA
and find the planet (green) is in a region of the disk where gas-phase C/O~1 and, is forming beyond the H2O ice line.

Localized accretion heating from a giant planet?

Giant planets are expected to impact their surrounding disk environment from heating and/or shocks. The asymmetric SO emission detected from within the dust cavity of the HD 100546 disk may be due to heating from the putative planet HD 100546 c (green dot).
