About me

Some background

  • My choice to do a PhD was driven by my desire to do policy-relevant research.

  • I grew up German-Brazilian, and was naturalized American as an adult.

  • I speak English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and German fluently. I teach in both English and French, and my work in Colombia is mostly in Spanish.

  • My pronouns are she/her.

Research

  • The bulk of my research lies in an impact evaluation in Colombia to quantify the benefits of adding soft skills training to vocational education for young adults affected by the civil war. This has been a great opportunity to conduct a field experiment from start to finish. Together with my colleagues and co-authors, we raised $64,000 for this impact evaluation and the project, including the SDC-NADEL Impact Award in 2020, the HEC Research Fund or 2018, and the E4S COVID-19 grant in 2020.

Institutional activities

  • I was a PhD representative for my department, along with Pascal Meichtry, from 2019-2021. With my co-representative, we made sure that the concerns of PhD students in our department were addressed, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • I co-founded Rare Voices in Economics in February 2020 (then known as Women in Economics Léman) with Laura Nowzohour (IHEID) and Federica Braccioli (UniGE), to work on making the economics profession more inclusive and equitable.

Software Skills

  • For statistical modelling, I use Stata and R. I know how to do some web scrapping with Python.
