I will be joining the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University for my PhD in Physical Oceanography !
I will be working their with Prof. Thomas Haine, starting Fall 2018.
I am a Master's student at the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, at the Indian Institute of Science. I study the earth's physical climate and the role of its different components such as the oceans, the atmosphere and the cryosphere in its short and long term variability. I am also generously supported by the Divecha Center for Climate Change.
I am currently working with Prof. J. Srinivasan trying to understand the role of surface elevation in the quantification of OLR (outgoing longwave radiation) for Antarctica. In the process, I am involved with working on different data sets ranging from Satellite observations, contemporary reanalysis and a radiative transfer model, SBDART. My goal is to build a simple analytical model to explain the characteristics of clear sky OLR at high altitudes and in the process quantify the clear sky greenhouse effect.
I hope to learn about the physical world around us which meteorologists and oceanographers, through the ages, have so conveniently and painstakingly tried to elucidate. The long term manifestation of the interactions between these components of the earth system, that is, the climate, fascinates me and its variability which to me, is a wonderfully complex and brilliantly elusive problem. I hope to study the oceans and their role in our earth's climate variability which gives rise to phenomenon such as the El-Nino, the Thermohaline circulation and other decadal and multi-decadal oscillations.
In a previous chapter of my life, I got a degree in Civil Engineering from the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal where I spent 4 wonderful years of my undergraduate education.
