The Applied Language Institute Business English Camp provides an immersive English-language experience with a focus on communication and business skills in the areas of leadership and management. A minimum of 10 participants is required to run the program. Students will be tested prior to enrollment as they are required to have at least a B1 level of English.
Participants will have two 6-hour courses per week.
Course One will introduce US business culture and communication, providing an overview of US business norms, expectations, and key vocabulary. The course will also focus on professional language for meetings and negotiations as well as cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills.
Course Two will introduce students to essential business writing formats and technology tools to enhance presentations. The course will also provide opportunities for students to practice their reading, writing, and discussion skills on case studies in business.
The afternoon portion of the program highlights a selection of business and leadership-related field trips, including visits to the UMKC Bloch School of Management, as well as visits to businesses in the Kansas City area, arranged by the Applied Language Institute in collaboration with the Kansas City World Trade Center and Global Ties KC.
All participants will also have time to complete and present their capstone project, in which they will synthesize insights from case studies and business communication training into a cohesive analysis of a selected business topic, including examples from the visits in Kansas City.
