Brandis Whitfield

Ph.D. Candidate in Mathematics

welcome!

Hello! I'm a sixth-year Ph.D. student at Temple University working with Sam Taylor. I use any pronouns.

Research-wise, I am a geometric group theorist and low-dimensional geometric topologist with general interests in mapping class groups (big and small), the geometry of curve and arc complexes, and hyperbolic 3-manifolds.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I'm passionate about mathematics, education, and liberation.

I was featured as a rising star on Mathematically Gifted & Black, a website dedicated to spotlighting Black mathematicians during Black History Month.

Thanks to Spencer Dowdall for the mid-talk photo!
