Bristol-based composer Alex works at the meeting point of traditional orchestral writing and experimental electronic music.

Equally at home developing an idea through strings, synthesis or sound design, Alex approaches orchestral and electronic composition as two musical languages. This workflow allows him to draw on the particular strengths of each.

Growing up in a family of musicians, Alex spent much of his childhood behind the mixing desk for his father’s and brother’s bands. Playing piano and bass in bands himself, he developed an early interest in both composition and audio engineering.

After studying maths, music and physics, Alex went on to study Electronic Music Production at dBs Music in Bristol. There, he combined theoretical knowledge with advanced production techniques, exploring underground genres including dubstep and drum and bass. Alongside his studies, he worked as a freelance music marketer across a range of companies and industry roles. One especially rewarding part of this work was composing trailer music for plug-in launches, combining electronic composition, sound design and music-to-picture.

In 2023, Alex composed the original score for the short film Magpie. Around the same time, he released Modulate, a virtual instrument library combining live-recorded instruments and synth patches, each with performance-focused macros for shaping and evolving the sound.

Since March 2025, Alex has worked at Spitfire Audio, where he continues to develop his knowledge of orchestral techniques and electronic experimentation.
