Who Alex Is
Who Alex Is
It started early. Performing, that is. Like as a six-year old atop a grocery store mechanical horse loudly proclaiming Henry V's "Once More Unto the Breach" speech. Or reciting John Kennedy's "Race to the Moon" speech in grammar school spontaneously gathering a small audience of curious tourists at the Smithsonian. It was never a question of whether to act, but the path I would take.
Growing up in a creative and musical family of five in Moorestown, New Jersey, 20 minutes from Philadelphia, I was encouraged to show up at full measure. To boldly commit. To follow Whitman's exhortation from Leaves of Grass that "The powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse." Except that for me, the "may" has always been a "must." Acting is a part of who I am.
My current coach, Carl Ford, often jests that "you have to be crazy to pursue the life of an actor." That points been long taken, and yet . . . it's my passion; I can't see doing anything else. What verse I will contribute is yet unknown. Who knows what comes next, but I'll be ready.
