Alex Koifman was born in the Soviet Union where he experienced bullying, discrimination, and antisemitism. At the age of 19, he applied to leave the Soviet Union. For this “anti-Soviet” act he was immediately expelled from his university.
When he came to America, Alex applied to Brandeis University. After graduating from Brandeis with a degree in Computer Science, he worked on the first Internet project – ARPANET – followed by a successful career in several high-tech companies in the Boston area. Aside from technology, Alex also pursued his passion for fitness and graduated from the National Personal Training Institute. He has been a Newton resident for 20 years, his son graduated from Newton North HS.
He is the President of the all-volunteer charitable organization, the Russian Jewish Community Foundation - RJCF, and Director at RememberUs - Holocaust remembrance organization. For 15 years Alex has been a mentor and leader to the youth in the community, especially in his activities related to the Boston-Sderot after-school and summer camp projects. Alex is currently working as a director of IT at a Newton-based high-tech company and as a fitness coach.
