PhD Student at Masaryk University
I’m Alex, a PhD student, Instructor, and Senator of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Economics and Administration at Masaryk University in Brno, Czechia. My research lies at the intersection of health economics, crime economics, and drug policy, with a particular focus on how the regulation of illicit drug markets affects economic outcomes, public health, and crime.
Currently, I investigate the effects of methamphetamine lab raids on communities, focusing on shifts in local crime, prescription drug dispensing, and wastewater indicators of drug consumption. Beyond drug markets, I have also explored housing markets.
I teach statistics, econometrics, and macroeconomics, and I supervise undergraduate students. I particularly enjoy helping students develop critical thinking and the ability to connect economic theory with real-world problems. I am also involved in the Experti do škol project, organized by the Czech Economic Society (Česká společnost ekonomická), which introduces Czech high school students to current economic issues through the perspectives of leading Czech economists. In addition, I serve as a member of the jury for the final round of the Czech Economic Olympiad, where I help evaluate the country's top ten high school students.
