PhD Student at Masaryk University
I’m Alex, a PhD student and Instructor at Masaryk University, Brno-Czechia, specialising in the economics of health, crime, and drug policy. My research looks at how narcotics legalization and regulation affect economic outcomes, public health, and crime.
Currently, I investigate the effects of methamphetamine lab raids on communities, focusing on shifts in local crime, hospital admissions, and wastewater indicators of drug consumption. Beyond drug markets, I have also explored housing markets.
I teach statistics, econometrics, and macroeconomics, and I supervise undergraduate students. I particularly enjoy helping students develop critical thinking and the ability to connect economic theory with real-world problems. I am also involved in the project Experti do škol, organized by the Czech Economic Society (Česká společnost ekonomická). The project introduces Czech high school students to current economic issues through the perspectives of recognized Czech economists.

Assessing the Impact of Methamphetamine Lab Raids (working title)
This paper examines how targeted enforcement against illicit methamphetamine laboratories influences community outcomes—specifically, changes in local crime rates; shifts in public‑health indicators (including emergency‑department visits and poison‑control calls); and variations in drug‑metabolite levels measured in wastewater.
