This is a series of collage made during the short time I lived in Minneapolis (from 2019 into 2020.) These pieces were made entirely out of a portfolio of my old artwork which was mailed to me by my parents. Essentially, as an exercise in limitation, I mined the previous artwork for interesting moments of color or image and in a whirlwind of little scraps of paper, created the pieces you see on this page. I did this with no use of scissors, only by ripping or tearing. To finish this series, I gave these collages as gifts to friends and family, some given person to person with new friends from Minneapolis, and others sent by mail across the globe. (At the end you will see a few collage made during the same time period, but with a different set of materials.) ~Alex Kalil
