The beauty of the original series is that Gundams aren't merely advanced weaponry; each embodies the spirit and ideals of its pilot. For Wufei, the significance is doubly poignant. Nataku is not only a mythological warrior deity, but also the soul of his late wife Meiran. In the fic, Mariemaia initiates development of a new Gundam to maintain the stability of her regime. To Wufei, who is tasked to perfect it, the Preterid reflects a change in ideology and the 'answer' he has been searching for.
" There was nothing in the name to invoke Nataku or Justice, and they both knew the significance of its completion."

My attempts at Gundam design
Writing a mecha into existence is all well and good, but for 20 years a proper visual representation of the Preterid eluded me. Early sketches were a hodge-podge of ideas, described as 'simian' by one friend (and they were being kind) :D Subsequent attempts didn't get beyond rough sketches.
Fast forward to 2020, and I took another crack at it, as the picture above attests. The Preterid needs to be a Gundam in its proportions, if not its details. Just as Sally sees Wufei as a 'raptor in strange plumage', the Preterid has both familiar and unfamiliar traits.
The flamethrower weaponry harks to Altron, the sharper angles recall Epyon, and the shields may bring to mind the original Wing Gundam. However, large shoulder attachments have been discarded. Joints are configured to allow a greater degree of movement.
This may not be my last time trying to refine the Preterid's design, but I had a lot of fun with this iteration.
