Hi, I’m Alexandria Piland, a proud Latina, retired Union teacher, former small business owner, and candidate for Mayor of Rio Rancho.
I’m a mom. I’m a daughter and like so many families here, I’ve balanced budgets at the kitchen table, worked extra jobs to make ends meet, and felt the pressure of rising costs that make life harder every year. I’m running for Mayor because I love this city and because I believe deeply in the people who call Rio Rancho home.
This wasn’t an ambition. It was a decision rooted in duty.
I don’t owe a single contractor or developer a favor. I’m not here to protect the status quo. I’m here to make sure residents have a real choice between the same old approach that hasn’t worked for everyone, and a future that can.
I’m running because too many families are being squeezed.
Water bills that reach hundreds of dollars a month.
Crumbling roads and broken water lines that cost us time and money.
Limited transportation options.
Families forced to choose between utilities, groceries, and gas.
That’s not a budgeting problem, it’s a leadership problem.
A city is more than streets and buildings.
A city is people.
And when people are struggling, leadership has to step up.
Rio Rancho deserves:
Affordable utilities and responsible water management,
Safe, reliable infrastructure that serves current residents, not just future development,
Housing policies that keep families and seniors in the city they love,
Strong support for working families, labor, and unions,
Respect for Native sovereignty and partnership with neighboring communities,
And leadership that is transparent, accountable, and rooted in service.
This campaign is about bringing people in, not shutting them out. It’s about listening before deciding, leading with compassion, and making sure no one is left behind. Rio Rancho already has much to be proud of but “better than elsewhere” is not the same as “as good as it can be.”
Potential alone doesn’t move a city forward.
People do.
This campaign is about us our neighbors, our families, and our future.
Together, we can protect our democracy, strengthen our community, and build a Rio Rancho that works for everyone.
Let’s get to work together for the City of Rio Rancho!
