Welcome!
As a first post here, I'll write some feelings on poetry.
Poetry - is a powerful form of art for many reasons. For me, it allows the unraveling of thought which in place provides a sense of catharsis, a place closer to understanding the nature of self, family, friends, community, environment and belonging. Writing poetry can be a critical task at times, using words as a form of architecture - but this attentiveness is something deeper than page, it is in our being, it is in our body and thought before and throughout the creative process. Although poetry requires much solitary scribbling and contemplation, it is an art to be shared - This is what fascinates me about it, Its connecting abilities. As a writer and performer all that I can hope is that people connect to the expression and imagination of my work, because in doing so - they are joining my thoughts, they are joining my feelings and ideas - and likewise I am joining the reader/listener.
School visits National Poetry week October 2019
I have visited some wonderful schools lately, to share my poems and facilitate poetry workshops in the classes. Below I will add some images containing excellent poems created on National poetry Day. The theme this year was TRUTH - so I wrote a short poem on the subject to share with the children.
Truth
The truth can
live in shadow
rarely heard,
seldom seen.
and even when it
comes to light
some choose
not to believe,
but truth makes way
for space to dream,
truth is a bird,
wide winged and free
