Project Description
In this project, I've made an update on my E-Porfilio of explaining how social media impacts society.
According to the "Am I addicted to social media?" quiz, I'm not addicted since checking social media every few minutes doesn't make me anxious as I prefer to live in the moment according to the quiz. But I do think it's correct it really doesn't affect me being on social media and don't have an urge to use it.
Results: Congratulations! Psychologists estimate that as many as 5 to 10% of Americans meet the criteria for social media addiction today. But luckily, that's not you! Not checking social media every few minutes doesn't make you feel anxious, as you prefer to live 'in the moment' rather than through your apps. You use social media to your advantage, at work and to connect with friends and family, but you know when to put it away. Keep it up!
Social media significantly influences public discourse, both positively by raising awareness of social issues and facilitating activism, and negatively by contributing to echo chambers and the rapid spread of misinformation. While it provides a platform for diverse perspectives, algorithms often limit exposure to differing opinions, fostering polarization. Striking a balance between the positive aspects of increased awareness and the challenge of misinformation is crucial for cultivating a more informed and healthier society.
A statistical difference in usage of social media platforms according to Forbes gives a surprising result of how many people use Facebook compared to TikTok and other social media platforms.
I've learned by taking the test and analyzing how I use social media isn't really affecting me. since I don't use it constantly, I don't have the urge to be on social media all the time.
