Hi! I'm Alex. I'm a current Ph.D. candidate at UC Davis. I strive to be the best educator I can be, and I love teaching mathematics. I'm broadly interested in the interplay between topology and geometry. In the past I've done work in hyperbolic knot theory, and am currently thinking about contact topology through an algebraic lens.
I completed my undergraduate degree at Williams College and am now in my fourth year of the PhD program at UC Davis, where I am advised by Roger Casals.Â
In my free time, I love rock climbing, hiking, baking (particularly bread related items like pretzels, bagels, and croissants), and playing board games.
I firmly believe in Federico Ardila's Axioms:
Axiom 1: Mathematical potential is equally present in different groups, irrespective of geographic, demographic, and economic boundaries.
Axiom 2: Everyone can have joyful, meaningful, and empowering mathematical experiences.
Axiom 3: Mathematics is a powerful, malleable tool that can be shaped and used differently by various communities to serve their needs.
Axiom 4: Every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
