Welcome to Alexander Hoover's homepage! I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
My research focuses on the interplay of fluids, mechanics, and behavior in organism pumping, flying and swimming. In particular, I am interested in how their interaction influences the production of efficient and robust mechanisms of fluid transport and locomotion. I’m generally interested in mathematical biology, biofluids, computational modeling, and applied mathematics.
If you are interested in these topics and about potentially pursuing research in these areas at either the undergraduate, masters, or doctoral level, feel free to send me an email (hoover@utk.edu)!
I am also an active council member of Spectra, the Association for LGBTQ+ Mathematicians. I am the currently serving as interim President until February 1st, 2027.
