Hi, I'm Alex, the Choir President from Betty H Fairfax.

Background (Past)

During high school, I have taken a variety of music classes including beginning choir, vocal ensemble, intermediate choir, advanced choir, and IB Music Theory. I chose these electives because I have always been passionate about music, and attending a STEM-focused school previously, I never had the opportunity to explore the arts. Additionally, my older brothers were in choir in high school, and attending their concerts sparked my own interest in singing.

I enjoyed choir because of the teacher, Mr. Hughes, who is an exceptional educator, fostering a hospitable learning environment for his students. Through his guidance, I was able to join several honor choirs, including the Greater Phoenix Honor Choir, North Central Regional Honor Choir, and All-State Choir. These experiences introduced me to passionate, like-minded individuals and helped me to grow as a singer.

As a result of my four years of music education, I learned that humility is a sign of self-awareness and longevity. I also learned that with determination and hard work, I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. Furthermore, participating in performing arts has helped me become a more confident, outgoing person.

Me as an Artist (Now)

I have grown fond of singing German Lieder and arias, although I also enjoy solo classical and choral music. My emotions often influence my compositions and the themes they follow. I typically know when I have completed learning a song when I have practiced it at least 30 times with my Choir Teacher Mr. Hughes.

My Future and Goals

My professional goal is to sing at the MET, and I plan to double major in Vocal Performance and Choral Education at Northern Arizona University. After teaching for a few years, I aim to pursue my dream of singing opera.
