About Alex

I'm currently working as a Senior Lecturer at The Ohio State University, teaching a range of social/political/ethics courses and researching issues connected to sport and to labor unions. I received my PhD in 2020 from the University of Colorado Boulder under the guidance of Alastair Norcross.

My research is focused on two important aspects of our lives and society: sport and work. This is with regards both to ontological questions – e.g. what is doping, what is a union – and normative ones – e.g. what should college athletics look like, do workers have an obligation to obey workplace commands.

As an instructor, I love teaching social, political, and applied ethics-y courses, and I attempt to bring in relevant empirical information to help students better engage with both the topics and our non-ideal world. That said, I haven't lost my early philosophical passion for more theoretical metaphysics!

Additionally, I was a founding member and honored to be the inaugural president of United Campus Workers ColoradoCWA Local 7799, the wall-to-wall union for all University of Colorado campuses, as I'm committed to doing what I can wherever I am to improve our students learning conditions (which just so happen to also be our working conditions!).
