My name is Alex Ramirez and this is my music portfolio
I am a 12th grade student at Santa Ana High School
This portfolio will include music I have, transribed, arranged, and composed
Transcribing/Arranging
This is one of the songs I have transcribed and arranged for my mariachi class. This piece is called "Me Gustas Mucho" by Ariel Camacho. This song is not typicaly played in mariachi groups, the origional song is typically played in Regional Mexican Corrido music groups.
Transcribing/Arranging
This is a song called "La Bruja". This song has some indigenous influences. Over time this song has become a staple in Mexican Folk music.Â
Composing
This is a song I composed for a short film called "Just A Little Longer" by Jayden Balbuena. This project was for our High School film program. This short film is on men's mental health.
I have had the privilege of being voted into becoming the current, and the first ever, Vice President of the mariachi program at Santa Ana High School this school year
I am the current Guitarron section leader of the mariachi program. Although guitarron is not my main instrument, my main instrument is guitar, but during my Junior year of High School our former. and only, guitarron player was going to graduate that year. So the upcoming summer I learned the instrument because I was scared our program would be left without a guitarron player. Learning this instrument was the next step into my mariachi journey.
I was the former guitar section leader before I had become the guitarron section. I started playing mariachi in the 7th grade and it has stuck with me ever since. I will never regret making the choice of entering a mariachi class. Guitar has been a very prominent part for me in mariachi since it is my main instrument.
Outside of school I am part of a grupo called "Grupo Imperio De Santa Ana". I play the armonia guitar which is the accompanying guitar. It is fun playing music outside of school aswell because it gives me a seprate type of feeling and experience than from playing music with school.
