When recording or streaming online, there are lots of resources about the use of OBS (Open Broadcast Studio). When working in an environment with multiple scenes or sources, hotkeys can be an easy way to ensure your broadcast runs smoothly. This video presents a low-cost alternative to typically expensive macro keyboards, using open source software.
By combining two open source pieces of software, OBS Studio and HID Macros, custom hotkey combinations can be mapped from to one key on one specific keyboard (or other interface device). This means you can change scenes or turn cameras on or off with one button press.
If you want to change scenes remotely, don't forget, those presenter clickers are Human Interface devices too. Simply follow the steps in the video and when scanning, press the clicker button you want to allocate the macro to, then switch OBS scenes from afar.
