One quiet evening, the Giver sorts through an old box of books in his study. He lifts an unfamiliar volume, and as it cracks open, a bookmark falls and flutters to the floor.Â
"Oh, what's this?" the Giver asks. He stoops to pick it up and quickly realizes it's not a bookmark at all. Scrawled on a fragment of torn paper is a short, incomplete message that reads:
"...to leave abruptly, but I know, deep down, you'll come find me one day. I'll be there waiting for you.

R"
