My background spans years of hands-on retail work and independent caregiving, navigating an industry that rapidly accelerated in the wake of the pandemic.
As post-COVID budget and staffing cuts placed heavier operational demands on floor staff, versatility became essential. Having been trained early on in cash handling, float management, and supervisory tasks by previous managers, I was uniquely positioned to step into these expanding responsibilities and help ease the burden across the store. This proactive approach led to stepping up as Store Leader in 2023, which coincided with wrapping up my duties as a personal carer for my mother as her requirements changed.
When my branch eventually closed its doors, I took the opportunity to broaden my skills across writing, digital copy, and language. I learned editorial research, interview techniques, and media law compliance through the London School of Journalism, before moving on to commercial strategy, SEO writing, and brand messaging with the College of Media and Publishing. Building on this, I will draw on my Spanish fluency to pursue professional interpreting, with the end goal being a career in professional translation.
