BRIEF HISTORY
Originally known as Binalatongan, this area became a mission field for the Dominican missionaries who arrived in 1587 to begin evangelization. Their legacy lives on through the majestic brick church completed in 1773, once hailed as the largest church in the Philippines. After centuries of faithful service and spiritual impact, this historic church was elevated to the rank of Minor Basilica by Pope Francis on January 14, 2023—an honor that recognizes its deep spiritual significance and enduring role in the faith life of the region. Now celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2025, the basilica continues to inspire pilgrims to deepen their faith and carry out the mission of evangelization, as echoed by former parish priest Fr. Mario Dominic Sanchez, who reminded us that "we receive evangelization now, and it is time for us to evangelize—beginning in our families, in our communities, and in our neighborhoods." O Banal na Pari ng Diyos
at marilag na Patriarka, Santo Domingo, ikaw na kaibigan, sinisintang anak, at pinagkakatiwalaan ng Reyna ng Kalangitan, na naging daan ng maraming himala sa pamamagitan ng kapangyarihan ng Santo Rosaryo,
dinggin mo ang aking mga panalangin.
Noong ikaw ay nasa lupa,
Binuksan mo ang iyong puso
sa mga paghihirap ng iyong kapwa,
at ang iyong mga kamay ay naging kasangkapan ng tulong at habag;
ngayon na ikaw ay nasa langit,
ang iyong pag-ibig ay hindi nabawasan, at ang iyong kapangyarihan ay hindi kumupas.
Ipanalangin mo ako sa Ina ng Banal na Rosaryo at sa kanyang Banal na Anak, sapagkat ako’y may malaking tiwala na sa pamamagitan ng iyong tulong ay makakamtan ko ang biyayang labis kong hinahangad:
