Ashwag Albakri

Bio Overview:

Ashwag Albakri is the Vice Dean of the Deanship of Student Affairs - Female Campus at Jazan University, Saudi Arabia. She also an Assistant Professor in Computer Science Department. She received her B.S. degree in Computer Science from King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia in 2010, M.S. degree in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh, PA in 2015 where she specialized in Security Assured Information Systems, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Telecommunication and Computer Networking from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), USA. Her primary advisor is Dr. Lein Harn, and co-advisor is Dr. Deep Medhi. At UMKC, Ms. Albakri worked as both a Graduate Assistant and a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Introduction to cryptology course where she taught undergraduates the principles of cryptography.

Dr. Albakri has several journal and conference publications (see her Google Scholar page ). Her research interests are Information security, Cryptography, and Blockchain technology. Her Dissertation entitled "Lightweight Cryptographic Protocols for Mobile Devices" provide several cryptographic solutions related to the key management and key distribution in Wireless Sensor Networks, Fog Computing and Blockchain Network.

In addition, Ms. Albakri was a visiting researcher at the University of Southern California where she worked under the supervision of Dr. Bhaskar Krishnamachari on developing a Sybil Attack Detection Mechanism in distributed systems.

Ms. Albakri joined the UMKC Preparing Future Faculty program in 2018 to develop her teaching skills both in face-to-face and online environment settings. The PFF program is a graduate certificate in college teaching and career preparation. It prepares a graduate student to become an excellent professor at diverse higher education institutions. Her future goals are to serve as a Professor at Jazan University, participating in raising awareness of cybersecurity in the society, and encourage women to join STEM disciplines.
