Obituary: Alan Zoelzer (1955 – 2021)
Alan Zoelzer was a numbers man.
Unbalanced checkbooks beware.
Alan Zoelzer was a detailed man
Who showed deep love and care;
Love to Janet, his wife, for 36 years,
Love to Mitchell and Mandy too,
Love to his grandchildren, Lincoln and Piper,
He spoiled as good Poppys do.
A master handyman, skilled with a saw
Always there to lend a hand.
He never let a dad joke pass by,
Though his puns didn’t always land.
We will miss him fiercely, every day
We are grateful for all of his love.
Dad, we love you, more than you know,
We will see you again up above.
On Thursday, August 5, 2021, Alan Zoelzer, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 65 from complications from his third open heart surgery. Alan was born on October 1, 1955 in Wood River, IL to Ray and Jean (Wiegand) Zoelzer. He received his BA in Accounting from Sangamon State and practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for 37 years in Illinois and Missouri. On October 6, 1984 he married Janet Rae Huelskoetter. They raised two wonderful children, Mitchell and Amanda.
Those who knew him, knew that Alan enjoyed woodworking, driving his Corvette, playing with the family dog and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, like his mom. He loved his family with all of his heart and had a huge soft spot for his grandkids (who could talk him into anything). He was a member of St. Paul’s Lodge #500, Scottish Rite – Valley of Springfield, Ansar Temple Shrine, and a Senior DeMolay of the Stephan A. Douglas Chapter. He had a strong faith in God and through that faith he served on several church councils and volunteered with Sharing Meals and the Oasis Food Pantry. Alan was constant. He adored his wife and always told jokes that could make anyone’s eyes roll. He will be profoundly missed.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, Ray, and his mother, Jean. He is survived by his wife, his two children, his brother Michael (wife, Donna), his two grandchildren Lincoln and Piper, and his four niblings.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Baue Funeral Home Cave Springs from 4-7PM.
