About Me

Autobiography

Shek Lun Leung, Alan is a Qiskit Advocate in Hong Kong and works as an IB, IGCSE, GCE AL, SAT, AP, DSE academic tutor in quantum computing, Math & Physics. As an MSc Physics postgraduate from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) with 3 years of teaching experience, his education goal is to ignite students' talents and facilitate learning with tech. Research interests are Quantum Machine Learning, Quantum Information Theory, and Quantum Networks.

Within these two years, Alan has been frequently participating in self-project and collaborative works, international competitions, and the quantum computing community. He constantly builds projects on GitHub, from optimization of quantum circuits using gradient descent on his own to the Max Cut problem via QAOA with Mr. Pinaki Sen in 2021. Apart from this, he acquired the intermediate level of IBM Quantum Challenge Fall 2020, tackling problems using Grover’s algorithm, in which 16% have finished the same amount out of 1,200 participants. Moreover, he tried to implement quantum algorithms to daily application. He and his team Quantum Orchestra (Mr. Rohit Chaurasiya, Cynthia Rios, Quentin Sieredzki, Suyeon Park) guided by mentor Mr. James Weaver and Daniel Sierra-Sosa won the Qiskit Community Award in Qiskit Hackathon Global by delivering a program capable of receiving a quantum circuit and returning an audio file with a music sheet. Besides, he is one of the mentors in Qiskit Hackathon Taiwan collaborating with Mr. Junye Huang to install QPong in lexaloffie platform and later implement it in Raspberry Pi framework. Also, he manipulates quantum circuits using the Unity package designed by Mr.Marcel Pfaffhauser to generate quantum blur images and generate MineCraft-like terrain via quantum randomness for the futuristic art, information security and random game background. Recently, he and his team QTechnocrats (Mr.Pinaki, Mr.Alberto Maldonado Romo, Dr. Amandeep Singh Bhatia) participated in QHack organized by Xanadu and Amazon, generating a quantum neural network for classification on patients with CVID-19, pneumonia and normal symptoms.

He is an energetic person, who likes singing, playing trombone and drama. He has been finding more and more meaningful ways to spread great ideas and discuss philosophical questions with others.

My Personality

Over the years, I have discovered and shared meaningful ways to spread great ideas both inside and outside of the classroom. Also, working in collaboration with the teammates become more and more essential in nowadays ever-changing society.

The core value is printed in my mind is that we need to educate not only in knowledge about the nature, society, humanity, entertainment, but also the inspiration from the speakers all corners of the globe which can connect the personal experience with students.

Internet is a milestone to share ideas with colleagues, students, friends and family members or even the people you do not know. YouTube is such a platform allow e-learning possible.

Strength

I would describe myself as a passionate, caring and dedicated individual who enjoy the excitement in education. I always consider the passion in me and strive for excellence in actualising my potential in the vocation of a teacher.

Weakness

I have space for improvement on my management skills. Sometimes, I work more than I expected in time and effort as I may set too many targets on a project. I need to constantly review my progress with others. And I would consider this is an opportunity for me to have effective communication with teamates and also learn from each other.

My Goal in Education

My goal of education is to cultivate a knowledgeable future citizen and servant leader to carve their strong character using innovative learning pedagogy and ideal learning environment.

MY Recent Profession

I’m a physics and maths teacher, who serves a variety of styles: one-to-one, group, offline, and online tutorials for local and international school students in regular and snap course formats. I designed tailor made teaching notes to help students excel in public examinations like HKDSE, IB, GCE, AL, iGCSE, SAT. I’m proud to say that one of my students scored 780 out of 800 on the SAT Math 2 test. Furthermore, I am proud to have worked and studied in various EMI schools with diverse ethnicities, allowing me to appreciate multiple disciplines and explore multicultural boundaries in teaching.
