NAF Mission Statement
The National Academy Foundation (NAF) provides students access to facilities that will help them succeed in their field. Through hands-on training, coursework, and specific career guidance, the academy prepares its students for the real world. This foundation integrates real world situations into study based curriculums and ultimately prepares its students for the field in which they chose to specialize in. NAF solves some of the biggest challenges facing education and the economy by bringing education, business, and community leaders together to transform the high school experience.
What is NAF Business Academy?
NAF Business Academy teaches a plethora of different sections of business that allow students to grow and develop in their business endevours. We learn about the tricks of marketing and accounting. We also learn about the importance of professional ethics and financial planning for the future. Economics teaches us how America's economy functions and thrives.
Marketing
In marketing, we learned the basis of beginning and advertising for a business. For our culminating assignment, we found a niche market and decided on a business that we could help with that niche market. For my business, my team and I created a teen lounge that offered a variety of activities for entertainment, food, and social opportunities. I created this logo that represented one of our customers relaxing at our lounge!
I learned how crucial it is for a business to stick to their mission statement and have consistent morals. I also learned about all of the ways businesses try to market their products in order to extend their outreach. Overall, this class was extremely helpful and interesting!
Accounting
In accounting, we have been learning all about balancing accounts. I have learned not only how to set up accounts and list the transactions, but also how to balance the accounts and close them. I have learned how to create financial statements. In our culminating project, I get to plan out my future college life and the majors that are required for my future career.
Accounting did an amazing job of showing me how important it is to keep your books in equal and accurate at all times. I also learned how to manage accounts and create transactions. This is an example of a simple cash account.
Professional Ethics
In ethics, we learned about how to be professional in the workplace. I learned how to properly address my co-workers as well as my boss. We went through many ethical dilemmas and we had to professionally navigate our way through it. For our culminating project, me and a partner had to create an ethical decision-making framework for a controversal topic in society. My partner and I chose abortion rights. Our project is linked to the photo.
Ethics taught me that it is always better to be honest in business. I also learned basic housekeeping issues that arise in the work place and how to deal with them. This class has significantly prepared me for my future career.
Financial Planning
In Financial Planning, we learned everything from saving for college to what we need to look for when applying for a credit card. Our culminating project was to plan our lives at 30, where we needed to plan for mortgages, car loans, children, and insurances. Overall, this course was extremely crucial to my understanding of the financial aspects of life. Attached are photos from My Life at 30 presentation.
Learning how to use credit cards and how important it is to keep your debt at a minimum has allowed me to see that you must spend within your means. This also helped me think of careers that would allow me to live with a salary that keeps me comfortable. This was the most influential class in the academy.
Business Economics
In Business Economics, we have learned the basics about our capitalistic society. We have discussed other countries' markets and how they differ from America's system. We have also discussed the causes for shifts in demand and supply, as well as how those two correlate. We have created a project based around the concept of shifts in supply and demand.
So far, I have learned what causes businesses to raise and lower prices. We have also learned the idea of elasticity in supply and demand. This has made it clear to me how volatile pricing is in a market economy. Thisis an example of a demand curve.
NAF Track Certification
My NAF Track Certification will be complete at the end of my senior year. I have finished an internship at a law firm, and I am half way through my last NAF class, Business Economics. I will be NAF Track certified when I graduate, as I have passed every test.
