Hi, my name is Alan. I'm a PhD candidate in political science at UC Berkeley. My research interests are primarily focused on labor unions in American politics. My core interest is in understanding how shifts among rank-and-file union members constrain the degree to which labor unions can help the Democratic Party. To do this, I examine the institutional design of labor unions, collect novel administrative data on union officers, survey union officers, and analyze survey data on union members. My work has been published in the American Political Science Review and is forthcoming in the Quarterly Journal of Political Science.

I also work with progressive organizations to conduct field experiments and program evaluations to improve their work.
