Micheal Posey is a world language teacher at Mountain Brook Junior High School in Mountain Brook, AL, who has a passion for global education.

Posey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in Romance Languages: Spanish and French, coupled with equal coursework in Classics: Latin and Ancient Greek; and a Master’s Degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Middlebury College along with post-graduate work at other institutions. He considers himself a lifetime learner!

In Poseyʻs teaching tenure, he has been recognized four times as a National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) grant recipient. Posey's latest NEH summer seminar (2021) focused on a three-week deep-dive into Roman Daily Life through the lens of the Satyricon by Roman author, Petronius, and realia from the city of Pompeii. Posey was one of 52 applicants to be selected for this 16-teacher cohort for summer study with Latin teachers from across the country. In 2017, he received the Mason A. Steward for teacher training award by the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS). In 2020, The College Board selected Posey to attend an Advanced Placement (AP) and WE Summit held on Microsoft’s campus in Redmond, WA.

Most recently, Posey was selected for the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms, a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Posey is one of approximately 71 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad through the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, as well as record of service and demonstrated leadership potential.

On the technology front, Posey is a certified Google Educator (Level I and II) and was selected as a recipient of a National Security Agency (NSA) fellowship to explore cybersecurity (2017). Professionally, Posey currently is a Writing and Steering Committee member of the National Latin Exam and also Chair of the National Mythology Exam: Pegasus. Posey has served twice as President of the Louisiana Classical Association (LCA), chaired Excellence Through Classics (ETC), a committee of the American Classical League (ACL), and was the longtime editor (2006-2020) of PRIMA, a quarterly newsletter distributed by ACL.

Posey has been a featured presenter at several local, regional, and national professional conferences on utilizing online formative assessments and incorporating current educational technology in the world language classroom.

A crock-pot slow-cooker, neighborhood jogger, and enthusiast of a panoply of world languages and cultures, Posey has traveled extensively in the Americas and Europe and is most passionate about introducing students to meaningful global opportunities and world-connected learning.
