Jason Jackson has been the PK-6th general music teacher at Daphne East Elementary School since 2020 where he also directs the 4th-6th grade choir and Orff ensemble. Jason earned his BMEd and MMEd from Auburn University, completed Level I Kodaly at the University of Montevallo Kodaly Institute, and completed Level III Orff-Schulwerk certification and a masterclass at Samford University. Jason also serves the elementary division of AMEA as President.

Virginia Barr is one of the music teachers at Crestline Elementary School in Mountain Brook. She began teaching music full-time in public schools in Alabama in 2020. She has completed her Orff and Kodály Level III certifications and an Orff Masterclass. Virginia graduated from Samford University with a master's degree in Music Education with a Choral Concentration in May of 2020. A native of Birmingham, AL, she now teaches the Dolce Choir with the Birmingham Girls Choir. She has worked part-time as a children's music teacher at Trinity United Methodist Church August of 2017. She taught Music at South Highland Presbyterian Church from 2017-2023 and Pre-School Music at the South Highland Child Development Center from 2017-2020. She graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine with a Bachelors of Arts in Music and a minor in Earth and Oceanographic Science in 2016. Virginia has also performed in theatrical performances at various regional theaters in Birmingham since 2016. A few of her favorite roles include Rapunzel in Into the Woods and Jenny in Company at the Virginia Samford Theatre. Virginia is excited to be the Vice-President of the Alabama Chapter of the AOSA!

Jackson Vaughan is one of the music teachers at Crestline Elementary School in Mountain Brook. He is a graduate of Samford University and Bowling Green State University with a bachelors and masters in music education. In 2023 Jackson completed his Orff Certification. He is an active participant in the music ministries at Baptist Church of the Covenant where he sings in the covenant choir and plays trombone.
Brooke Gray, Secretary | agray@shelbyed.org
The Secretary is Brooke Gray, music specialist at Oak Mountain Intermediate School. She currently serves as the Social Media Chair for the Elementary Division of AMEA. She is also Member-at-Large for SHAKE (Sweet Home Alabama Kodaly Educators). In the past she has directed multiple shows, choirs, instrument ensembles and grade level programs. A graduate of the University of Montevallo, she is certified in the Kodaly Concept with a Masters designation and currently holds a Level Two Certification in the Orff Concept. A music teacher for 24 years, she has directed the Elementary Honor Choir for both Jefferson and Shelby County; served as the E-team Leader at Hueytown Intermediate and has taught technology as well. She is active in both the AOSA and SHAKE communities. She is the director of Broadway Bound, Oak Mountain Melodies and Oak Mountain Mallets (an Orff ensemble). The Oak Mountain Melodies recently performed at the 2026 AMEA state conference.

Kristen MacQueen has been the K-6 music teacher at Spanish Fort Elementary School since 2018. She graduated from the University of Mobile in 2006 with a BMEd, and received her Orff certification in 2023 from Samford University.

Rachel Harbin is the K-5th grade music teacher at Austinville Elementary School in Decatur, AL, where she also directs the Roaring Chorus. Rachel earned her BMEd and MMEd at Troy University in 2022 and 2024. She has also completed Level I Kodály at the University of Montevallo Kodály Institute and earned an Orff-Schulwerk certification at Samford University. Rachel is active in AOSA, SHAKE, and AMEA, and she was named the AMEA Outstanding Young Music Educator of the Year in 2026. Additionally, Rachel currently serves as the Hospitality Chair for the Elementary division of AMEA. She fosters her own musicianship by participating in contradancing groups in North and Central Alabama.
