I have been a teacher for 25 years, and I became a school librarian 8 years ago. As the school library landscape changes, I wanted to make sure that I had the right skills to prepare my students for success in a 21st Century work environment. They will need programming and problem solving skills, and I wanted to be able to provide them with the highest quality instruction. Though I have pursued learning to program on my own, I recognized the importance of a formal program of study to reach my goals. When I discovered the Post-Master's Certificate in Library and Information Science program at the San José State University School of Information, I realized that this was the program I needed. When accepted, I chose the Web Programming and Information Architecture Pathway.
I now bring programming skills and the knowledge of how to teach these skills to the classroom and library. I can guide students as they learn to program and help them create their own projects. This portfolio will display the skills that I developed throughout this program. These skills are directly applicable to my role as a teacher/librarian.
In each section of this website, I will provide evidence that I can use and explain code and create useful and interesting projects. Using the techniques and technologies that I have learned in this program will allow me to create a community of learners who seamlessly integrate the best technology and information into their projects and classes.
