LHC and CMS at CERN :
I work in the field of experimental High Energy Physics. I have been associated with Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which is the highest ever energy particle accelerator built by mankind. LHC is hosted by CERN in the city of Geneva near French-Swiss border. LHC has been colliding protons from 2009 onwards at different centre of mass energies, 900 GeV , 7 TeV, 13 TeV and 13.6 TeV. There are 4 major experiments being conducted in order to study the products of these collisions. I am associated with the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) detector and experimental collaboration from the beginning of my PhD in 2010.
Research Topic :
Standard Model (SM) has been the most successful theory of Particle Physics. It explains all the fundamental constituents of visible matter and their interactions. Higgs boson was the last missing piece. One of the main motivation behind LHC was to search for elusive Higgs boson. This boson was postulated by Dr. Peter Higgs in 1960s. The theoretical framework was developed by Dr. Peter Higgs, Dr. Fracois Englert, Dr. Robert Brout in 1960s in their independent publications.
