Northeast Ohio Fundraising Efforts-

& Fundraising with Northeast Ohio connections

The following donation recommendation was shared by our friends Andy and Chris Fedynsky of the Ukrainian Museum and Archives in Cleveland.

Dear Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation Family,

Thank you. Your notes of compassion and support inspire us with hope. We’d like to give you an update on what has been happening at UCU.

This weekend, Ukrainian Catholic University has set up a Humanitarian Support Collection Center on its campus. In response to the significant need and request for medicines and medical supplies, UCU’s Sheptytsky Center has become a collection site for medical aid including tourniquets, dressings, antibiotics, medical gloves, medical screws, painkillers, syringes, blood transfusion systems, blankets, meal kits, and other essential items.

Our student and faculty's bravery and commitment to Ukraine inspire us all.

UCU Foundation has established a Ukraine Emergency Fund. If you wish to designate your gift to support humanitarian aid and emergency relief, please include this information with your donation information in the notes section.

Yuriy Didula, came to Akron, Ohio with Open World Leadership Program in 2016. He works with Ukrainian Education Platform - now working with BUR - in Lviv...

"BUR emerged in 2014 as a volunteer action to rebuild houses in Eastern Ukraine damaged by war. However, over time, BUR has become a volunteer movement all across Ukraine, forming a new generation of responsible Ukrainians who are making change. Therefore, BUR is about building, still not only houses, but bridges of communication between Ukrainians."

Yuriy Didula came to Akron, Ohio as a facilitator with Open World Leadership Program in 2016. He impressed us with his leadership skills and work in Ukraine. Currently, he is leading an effort across the country to bring Logistical Support, Humanitarian Aid and Evacuation to cities such as Kharkiv and Mariupol. His organization is also seeking funds to distribute needed arms, protective equipment, medical needs and supplies for volunteers defending Ukraine.

Several times a day our boys take mothers with their children to the border and from there humanitarian help!!! Anna Kalbas- Open World Leadership Program Participant came to Akron in

Doroga Centre-Lviv

Due to the fact that we do not know how the Ukrainian banking system will work, a friendly Polish organization is helping us raise funds. These funds are needed to help those clients who are currently in our rehabilitation center (some of them are people from the East and other regions of Ukraine), as well as internally displaced persons and defenders. Recipient: Society of Families and Friends of Addicted Children Return from U Lublin, Kleeberga 16/167 Account number / IBAN: PL 87 1240 2412 1111 0010 2050 6642 SWIFT CODE Banku Pekao SAt: PKOPPLPWXXX. Transfer title: Donation for addicted families - Ukraine P.S. The appointment must have such a signature, because otherwise we will not be able to collect help. But in fact, in addition to the funds needed to support our clients from the east, they will also be used for everyone who needs them: internally displaced families, defenders.

Funding Opportunity- DOBRO NGO in Odessa

Past Open World leader, Vladimir Oros, spoke to Global Ties Akron Executive Director Michelle Wilson and Spectrum reporter Jennifer Conn 3-8-22 about efforts to continue the work of his NGO DOBRO ("Kindness"), after having to move from Dobropolye, Donets'Ka Oblast', Ukraine to Odessa to continue operations. (Vladimir is shown on the far left in the photo below from his visit to Akron in 2016)

Since the beginning of the crisis in 2014, DOBRO has worked in communities in the Donetsk Region to help families displaced by the fighting (IDPs) meet basic needs and settle into their new lives. Their support has also extended to other local populations negatively affected by the conflict. To date, they have implemented projects worth over $200,000 on behalf of Ukrainian and international partners. As the rest of the world mobilizes to assist Ukraine, DOBRO has the infrastructure, the experience, and the contacts in place to deliver assistance in these communities immediately.

In the short term, they are raising funds to mainly cover evacuations (including the purchase of fuel) and the provision of essentials such as food, hygiene items, bedding, and/or medicine.

Global Ties Akron is working through a close friend of Vladimir Oros- who is in the United States to collect funds and do a direct bank. His name is Andrew Meyer, he works for FEMA and has worked with Refugee work globally and his wife Karina Pavlova Meyer is from the same region as Vladimir.

As it is not easy to get funding into Ukraine- informal collection of funds and transfers are often the best means when working to direct to specific organizations to get funds transferred to where help is needed most immediately.

Thank you for your support for brave Ukraine!
