Recent Highlights

Presenting at Optics+Photonics 2022

Three papers were presented by Akila Udage in August at the SPIE Optics+Photonics conference in San Diego regarding novel designs of 3D-printed lenses and optics for LED lighting systems. LRC doctoral student Akila played a key role in developing the design methods and in evaluating the 3D-printed prototypes.

Udage presents at IES AC 2022

Akila Udage presented the findings of the study showing the feasibility of a 3D printing antenna on the external surface of a lighting fixture to improve communication performance during the 2022 IES Annual conference. Further, their study explored different methods of making antennas and evaluated their performances 

AMUG awards scholarship to Udage

The Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) has awarded the Guy E. Bourdeau Scholarship for students in additive manufacturing to Akila Udage, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in architectural science with research focusing on additive manufacturing for lighting at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Akila Udage recognized by DOE

Akila Udage, a doctoral candidate at the Lighting Research Center (LRC) in the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) with an Honorable Mention in the 2022 Solid-State Lighting Workshop student poster competition for his research into the use of 3D printing to integrate electromagnetic elements into lighting systems.  Read more...
