What is Biological Anthropology?

Biological anthropology is an interdisciplinary study area that combines biological studies and sociological studies. The two primary concepts connecting the two are "human evolution" and "biosocial diversity in humans".

To study humans biologically, representative research subjects are fossils, genes, and primates. Fossils are a suitable subject for understanding shapes and/or movements of bodies, and genes are for finding out relatives. The origin of humans traces back to seven-million-years ago, and many human ancestors existed on the earth once, but now they had been extinct except us, Homo sapiens. Therefore, it is effective a method that comparing with non-human primates to us, in order to understand how human behaviors or societies, having no physical form, have evolved. Also, many primates are endangered animals, and knowledge about their behaviors and environment brought from wild or captivity may help them and us to survive in the future.
