After messing around with the Unity application and viewing many different tutorial videos, augmented reality has a place in our technological society. In my opinion it is an extremely useful technology. It is a technology that could do better than harm, in my opinion. There are several different ways I can think of using this technology in my personal life. For example, when shopping. Suppose you find an item that you like and want to purchase it, but you cannot find the price anywhere. You simply pull out your phone and scan the item or the bar code and the price appears right night to the item. Another great way I can think of using this technology is when doing grocery shopping. I like to track my macro-nutrients and I can simply hover my phone over some food and it gives me all the nutritional values. Also, another great use for augmented reality would be in medicine. Suppose you want to show a patient what their body is going through or how a procedure will be performed on them, this technology would be a great way of getting them comfortable with a said procedure. Augmented reality is a great way to integrate technology into our day to day lives. Having a pair of AR glasses would also be great use. The amount of information available at in instance would be unprecedented. However, I feel we are not quite there in terms of everyday use. There are a couple of factors that come into play when using this technology. From my understanding, it comes down to lighting and camera quality. What if the room is dark? Are you then incapable of getting the information you require? Another thing that worries me is getting the wrong information. Suppose an item or image is read incorrectly by the AR device, then there is a chance of getting incorrect information. This can be very big issue especially when dealing with situations where the information needs to be precise. This technology does lack in these aspects but is currently on the right track. With new advancements and constant development, I truly believe the use of your cellphones and AR glasses will undoubtedly be a part of our everyday lives.
