Veronika Akhmadieva, PhD

PhD Economics and Finance (Birkbeck, University of London) | MSc Finance and Accounting (Imperial College Business School) | BSc (Honours) Economics (Brunel University)

Hello and welcome to my page. I hold a PhD in Economics and Finance, and my research mainly focuses on open economy macroeconomics, international trade and sovereign debt. I work predominantly with long panel data and specialise in dynamic modelling. When working on my doctorate, I analysed the short-term and long-term effect of world income on trade flows, then moved onto the analysis of balance of payments solvency, which naturally led to the analysis of fiscal sustainability, since balance of payments and sovereign debt crises often go hand in hand. In addition, I collaborated on a joint paper on the effect of euro on the European countries that joined the European Monetary Union, and this research helped to shed some light on the role of interest rate and exchange rate as the tools of open economy adjustment. My job market paper "Fiscal adjustment in a panel of countries 1870–2016" has been published in Journal of Comparative Economics (Volume 50(2), pp.: 555-568).
