If you want a wired, closed-back over-ear headphone for private, straightforward movie listening, choose AKG Pro Audio K92; if you need wireless in-ear monitoring with a transmitter and multiple-receiver pairing, choose EX GEAR 5.8GHz. For movies, my pick is the AKG because its design is a direct fit for personal listening, while the EX GEAR is built around a different job: wireless monitoring for performers and teams.
AKG Pro Audio K92 vs EX GEAR 5.8GHz at a Glance
• EX GEAR 5.8GHz: Wireless in-ear monitor system with 5.8GHz transmission, a stated range up to 100 ft, and automatic one-to-many pairing; the trade-off is that it is a transmitter-and-receiver monitoring system rather than a conventional movie headphone.
• AKG fit: Choose it for solo listening at a TV, computer, or other compatible device with a headphone connection.
• EX GEAR fit: Choose it for performers, rehearsals, or teams who need wireless audio monitoring from a transmitter.
• For movies: The AKG’s direct wired headphone setup is the simpler match; the EX GEAR makes more sense when wireless movement and shared monitoring are the priority.
The K92 is a closed-back, circumaural headphone with 40 mm drivers. Its 32-ohm impedance is intended to work with a broad range of playback devices, from professional studio equipment to portable players. The supplied 1/8-inch plug and 1/4-inch screw-on adapter give it two common wired connection options, while the 3 m cable allows some room between the listener and the source.
For movies, this is the more natural choice of the two. It is a straightforward headphone you connect directly to a compatible source, without a wireless transmitter or receiver to set up. Its closed-back construction is designed to keep sound from leaking out and to reduce outside sound reaching the listener. That makes it a sensible fit for watching a film without sending as much audio into the room, though the data does not specify a numerical isolation level.
I would consider the K92 if you want over-ear headphones for movies, studio listening, or other private wired listening. The cable is its clear limitation: it is not a wireless solution, and the cable is not detachable. Skip it if you specifically need to move around freely, share a monitor mix with multiple receivers, or avoid being physically connected to your playback device.
The EX GEAR is a wireless in-ear monitor system built around a transmitter and receiver. It uses 5.8GHz transmission, supports stereo audio described as 48kHz/24-bit, and claims latency below 5 ms. Its stated wireless range is up to 100 ft, and the built-in rechargeable batteries are specified for more than five hours of continuous use on a full charge. Those features point toward rehearsals, stage work, and other situations where a performer needs to hear a monitor mix while moving.
The system’s most distinctive feature is one-to-many automatic pairing: a transmitter can pair with multiple receivers so several people can share the same monitor mix. That is useful for a band, team, or worship group working from one source. It is a different proposition from a typical personal set of headphones, however. The EX GEAR uses in-ear monitors, has no headphone jack, and relies on its included transmitter and wireless receiver rather than a direct cable from a television or computer.
For movies, I would choose the EX GEAR only if the wireless monitoring arrangement itself answers a specific need and the playback source can work with its transmitter. The supplied accessories include an audio cable, USB Type-C cable, wireless receiver, and wireless transmitter, but the available specifications do not give a detailed list of compatible TV or source connections. If you are simply looking for the best bluetooth headphones for movies, note that this is a 5.8GHz wireless system, not a Bluetooth headphone. It is better suited to monitoring work than ordinary couch listening.

How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.

Likewise, “earphones for movies” usually suggests compact personal listening. The EX GEAR is in-ear, but its purpose is monitoring through a transmitter-and-receiver setup. The K92 is larger and wired, yet its use is simpler when the goal is to plug headphones into a movie source and listen privately. The key distinction is not just over-ear versus in-ear; it is everyday playback versus wireless monitor-system use.
There is also a practical difference in what you need to manage. With the AKG, the main constraint is cable placement and having a compatible headphone connection. With the EX GEAR, you gain wireless range and multi-receiver pairing, but you also need to account for charging and using the transmitter. The data gives the EX GEAR a battery life of over five hours per charge, so it is sensible to plan around that limit for extended sessions.
For sound-related expectations, the K92’s closed-back design is described as limiting audio leakage and helping keep outside noise from distracting the listener. Its stated sensitivity is 113 dB SPL/V, and its listed frequency range is 16 Hz–22,000 Hz. The EX GEAR instead emphasizes digital stereo transmission at 48kHz/24-bit and latency below 5 ms. These are different specifications for different system designs; they do not provide a direct, like-for-like measure of which will sound better for a film.
I would buy the AKG Pro Audio K92 for movies because its closed-back, over-ear design and wired connections suit private, uncomplicated listening. It avoids the transmitter setup and charging routine that come with the EX GEAR system. I would choose the EX GEAR instead for wireless performance monitoring, especially when several receivers need the same mix. For ordinary movie watching, the AKG is my clearer recommendation.
No. It is a wired headphone with a 3 m cable, a 1/8-inch plug, and a 1/4-inch screw-on adapter. It is not the choice if you need wireless freedom.
No Bluetooth connection is listed. It is a 5.8GHz wireless in-ear monitor system that uses a transmitter and receiver, with a stated range up to 100 ft.
For a typical solo movie session, I recommend the AKG K92 because it is a direct wired, over-ear headphone with a closed-back design. The EX GEAR is better matched to wireless monitoring and shared mixes.
Its listed battery life is over five hours of continuous use on a full charge. The AKG is wired, so it does not rely on a rechargeable battery.

The phrase “best gaming headphones for movies” can blur two different needs. If you mean headphones for watching films and playing games from a compatible wired device, the AKG is the more direct fit based on its form and connections. If you mean a wireless system for monitoring audio while moving or performing, the EX GEAR offers relevant wireless features, but that does not make it a conventional gaming headset. Neither product’s specifications list a microphone, so I would not choose either on the assumption that it includes a boom mic for voice chat.
