If you want studio-grade precision and wired reliability for airplane travel or critical listening, choose AKG Pro Audio K371; if you need waterproof bone conduction for laps in the pool, choose H2O Audio Interval Swim Headphones. These two devices live in completely different worlds. One is built to sit on your head in a quiet control room or on a plane to isolate the noise outside while delivering accurate audio. The other is engineered to clip onto goggles and survive total submersion in chlorinated water. Picking the wrong one means buying a product that simply cannot do the job you need it to do.
• AKG Pro Audio K371: Delivers professional-grade, neutral sound with superior isolation but requires a wired connection and lacks water resistance. Best for audiophiles, producers, and travelers needing focus.
• H2O Audio Interval Swim Headphones: Offers wireless freedom and IPX8 waterproofing for underwater use but sacrifices deep bass isolation for an open-ear fit. Best for swimmers and athletes who need goggle compatibility.
• The Verdict: If your primary goal is high-fidelity audio in dry environments, the AKG wins. If you are training in the water, the H2O is the only viable option.
The AKG Pro Audio K371 is designed for people who demand accuracy above all else. This is not a casual pair of headphones meant for background noise; it is a tool for professionals. The specification sheet highlights a frequency response ranging from 5 Hz to 40 kHz, which is exceptionally wide. This range allows the user to hear details in music, podcasts, or mixing tracks that many other headphones simply filter out. The drivers are titanium-coated and measure 50 millimeters, described as the largest in their class. This physical size, combined with pure oxygen-free copper voice coils, creates a dynamic range that handles deep lows and sparkling highs with equal ease.
Comfort is a major selling point for this model, especially given its weight. At just 255 grams, they are remarkably light for over-ear studio monitors. The earcups feature plush, slow-retention foam pads that cradle the ears without creating pressure points. For anyone spending hours in front of a computer editing video or mixing audio, this ergonomic design is crucial. The closed-back oval enclosure provides superior sound isolation, meaning external noise stays out. This makes them ideal for airplane travel where cabin noise can be distracting, or for working in a busy office where you need to focus on the content coming through the ear cups.

However, there are trade-offs you must accept. These are wired headphones. They connect via a mini-XLR connector that requires a cable, and while the package includes a 3-meter coiled cable and a straight 1.2-meter cable, you are tethered to your device. You cannot take these into a swimming pool, and they are not designed to get wet. If you need a headset for webinars where you might be moving around a lot without a desk nearby, the wire could be a hindrance compared to a fully wireless solution. Furthermore, the impedance is 32 ohms, which works well with most sources, but the lack of built-in battery charging (despite the mention of charge time in some contexts, the connectivity is strictly wired) means you rely entirely on the connected device's power.
The H2O Audio Interval Swim Headphones serve a niche that the AKG cannot touch: aquatic sports. These are not traditional headphones; they utilize bone conduction technology to transmit sound through the cheekbones rather than blocking the ear canal. This open-ear design is essential for safety and situational awareness when swimming outdoors, though the product description notes a sound-isolating feature to ensure clear, warm sound even underwater. The unit is certified IPX8 waterproof, meaning it can withstand total submersion in up to 12 feet of water. This is a non-negotiable requirement for anyone who wants to listen to music while doing laps or surfing.
One of the most thoughtful design elements here is the integration of goggle loops. The case clips directly onto swim goggles, keeping the audio source low-drag and secure against the forehead. This prevents the device from floating away or getting lost during a swim. The device weighs only 10 grams, making it nearly invisible on the head once fitted. It connects via Bluetooth 5.0, allowing it to pair seamlessly with an Apple Watch or other Bluetooth-enabled MP3 players. The battery life averages seven hours, which is sufficient for long training sessions or multiple days of use before needing a recharge. The package includes five sets of elastomer earplugs in sizes XS to XL, ensuring a tight seal for those who prefer the in-ear speaker component to work alongside the bone conduction for better bass response.
The limitations become apparent when you look at the audio fidelity compared to the AKG. Because the design prioritizes water resistance and an open fit, it does not offer the same level of acoustic isolation. You will hear splashing water and ambient noise more easily than with a closed-back studio monitor. The driver type is listed as both Bone Conduction and Dynamic In-Ear, suggesting a hybrid approach, but the focus remains on durability and function rather than audiophile-grade neutrality. If you are looking for the best clip-on earbuds for warehouse work where hearing machinery is a safety priority, this open-ear style might actually be beneficial, but it won't deliver the immersive, noise-canceling experience required for critical listening in a quiet room.

I would buy the AKG Pro Audio K371 for my daily commute and airplane travel because the combination of isolation and sound quality is unmatched for a wired device. I need to block out engine noise and hear every detail in my podcast or music, and the 255-gram weight ensures I don't get a headache after an hour. However, I would never take them into the pool. If my primary goal was swimming, I would immediately switch to the H2O Audio Interval Swim Headphones because no amount of sound quality matters if the electronics fail the moment they hit the water. For the specific use case of air travel mentioned in the opening, the AKG is the clear winner for its ability to create a private, high-fidelity bubble in a chaotic environment.
Yes, the AKG Pro Audio K371 is excellent for air travel due to its closed-back design providing superior sound isolation from cabin noise. The H2O Audio model is not suitable for planes as it is designed for underwater use and has an open-ear fit that lets noise in.
Absolutely. The H2O Audio Interval Swim Headphones carry an IPX8 rating, meaning they can handle total submersion in up to 12 feet of water, making them safe for showers, pools, and lakes.
No, the AKG K371 is a wired headphone that relies on a 3.5mm jack connection. It does not have an internal battery, so you do not need to charge it, though you must stay within reach of your audio source.
The AKG K371 features large, 50-millimeter titanium-coated drivers for maximum acoustic precision, whereas the H2O Audio uses a combination of bone conduction and dynamic in-ear speakers optimized for waterproof durability rather than raw driver size.
