If you want a reference-grade open-back headphone designed for critical music listening and detailed studio work, choose AKG 701; if you need a feature-packed wireless headset with active noise cancellation and week-long battery life specifically optimized for video calls, choose Baseus Inspire XH1.
• AKG 701: Offers revolutionary flat-wire technology for pinpoint sonic accuracy and an open-back design that creates a spacious soundstage, but requires a dedicated amplifier and cannot block out external noise due to its lack of isolation. This pick is for the audiophile or home studio professional who prioritizes sound purity over convenience.
• Baseus Inspire XH1: Delivers adaptive active noise cancellation, 100 hours of playtime, and AI-enhanced microphone clarity for crystal-clear conversations, though it relies on proprietary digital processing rather than pure analog transparency. This pick is for the remote worker, traveler, or gamer who needs to stay connected in noisy environments without interruption.
The AKG K 701 is not a device built for the casual listener or someone looking for a simple plug-and-play solution. It is engineered as a reference-class tool for those who demand absolute fidelity from their audio source. The defining characteristic here is the revolutionary flat-wire voice coil technology, which AKG pioneered to deliver extremely accurate sound with exceptional transient response. If your primary goal is to hear every nuance in a recording—the breath of a vocalist, the decay of a cymbal, or the precise placement of instruments in a mix—this headphone delivers a level of detail that standard dynamic drivers simply cannot match. The patented Varimotion diaphragm works in tandem with this coil to provide sparkling highs and accurate bass response, ensuring that the audio remains clear across a massive frequency range from 10 Hz to 39.8 kHz.
However, this pursuit of perfection comes with significant trade-offs that define who should buy it and who must avoid it. The earpiece shape is open-back, meaning there is no physical barrier to prevent sound leakage or external noise intrusion. While this openness contributes to the natural, spacious soundstage that makes the K 701 so beloved by music enthusiasts, it renders the headphones useless for blocking out distractions. You cannot use these in a busy coffee shop, on a subway, or in a household with a running television. Furthermore, the impedance sits at 62 ohms, which often requires a dedicated headphone amplifier to drive them properly; plugging them directly into a laptop or phone jack may result in volume levels that are too low or a lack of dynamic punch.

This product is ideal for the person who has a quiet, dedicated space for listening and values technical performance over portability. It fits the user who wants a "best gaming headset for video calls" experience only if that environment is completely silent and they require zero latency or perfect positional audio for competitive gaming. But for the vast majority of people using headphones for daily communication or travel, the lack of noise control and the wired-only nature make this a poor choice. It is a specialized instrument for serious listening, not a general-purpose tool.
In stark contrast, the Baseus Inspire XH1 is a modern powerhouse designed for the mobile, connected lifestyle. Its entire architecture revolves around solving the problems of the modern worker: background noise, battery anxiety, and the need for high-quality audio on the go. The standout feature for anyone concerned with communication is the 5-mic AI Clear Call system. By utilizing AI-powered noise reduction, the headphones can isolate your voice even in chaotic environments like busy streets or cafes with ambient noise reaching 75 dB(A). This makes it a compelling candidate for anyone seeking the best headset for video calls, as it ensures your colleagues hear you clearly regardless of where you are working.
The battery performance is equally transformative for users who forget to charge their devices daily. With up to 100 hours of playtime with ANC off and 65 hours with it on, the Inspire XH1 eliminates the need for constant recharging. A mere 10-minute fast charge provides 12 more hours of listening, which is a game-changer for long flights or multi-day trips where power outlets are scarce. The comfort factor also leans heavily toward extended wear, featuring velvet-like protein leather and memory foam padding described as "CloudComfort." This allows the user to wear the headphones for full workdays or long gaming sessions without the fatigue often associated with rigid over-ear designs.
However, the reliance on Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and digital tuning means the sound profile is shaped by algorithms rather than pure analog physics. The headphones utilize a 4-layer hybrid ANC system that analyzes surroundings 38,400 times per second to reduce noise by up to -48 dB, effectively silencing plane engines and crying babies. While this creates an immersive bubble, it introduces a slight pressure sensation common to ANC tech and alters the raw sound signature. This model is perfect for the commuter, the frequent flyer, or the student who needs to focus in a dorm room. It is the practical choice for anyone who needs foldable in-ear earbuds equivalent functionality but prefers the stability and comfort of an over-ear design that supports multipoint connection and smart app control.
• Best for video calls → Baseus Inspire XH1, thanks to its 5-mic AI ENC and ability to filter out 75 dB(A) of background noise.
• Best for music production and critical listening → AKG 701, offering flat-wire technology and an open-back soundstage for uncolored audio reproduction.
• Best for battery life → Baseus Inspire XH1, providing up to 100 hours of nonstop playtime compared to the AKG's passive, wired operation.
• Best for noise isolation → Baseus Inspire XH1, featuring adaptive ANC that blocks out up to -48 dB of external sound.
• Best for portability → Baseus Inspire XH1, which includes a protective case and Bluetooth 6.1 connectivity for untethered use.
• Best for soundstage width → AKG 701, where the open-back design places musicians at their correct location with pinpoint accuracy.

• Best for quiet home studios → AKG 701, provided you have the necessary amplification gear to drive its 62-ohm impedance.
I would personally choose the Baseus Inspire XH1 for my daily life and work setup. In a world where I am constantly moving between home offices, coffee shops, and transit, the reliability of the 100-hour battery and the effectiveness of the AI-enhanced microphones are indispensable. While the AKG 701 is a marvel of engineering for pure audio fidelity, its limitations regarding noise isolation and the requirement for external amplification make it impractical for the average user who needs a reliable tool for video conferencing. If you are looking for the best gaming headset for video calls or a versatile companion for your commute, the Baseus offers a complete package that balances premium sound, comfort, and connectivity far better than the specialized AKG.
Yes, the Baseus Inspire XH1 is superior for this purpose because it features a 5-mic AI Clear Call system designed to filter out background noise in loud environments, whereas the AKG 701 lacks any integrated microphone or noise cancellation.
While not strictly mandatory, the AKG 701 has an impedance of 62 ohms, which typically benefits significantly from a dedicated headphone amplifier to achieve optimal volume and dynamic range compared to standard device outputs.
The Baseus Inspire XH1 offers an impressive average life of up to 100 hours with Active Noise Cancellation turned off, and up to 65 hours with it enabled, along with a fast-charging feature that provides 12 hours of playback from just 10 minutes of charging.
No, the AKG 701 uses an open-back design which allows sound to pass through freely, meaning it offers zero noise isolation and will let all surrounding sounds into your ears while leaking your audio outward.
