CATALYST SWITCHING
WHY CATALYST 9000?
Cisco IOS XE
Is the latest update of the core operating system from Cisco.
It is modular, programmable and supports all the capabilities of our new network controller, DNA Center.
This means that with a simple user interface, you can automate, establish policies, provide security and obtain security throughout your network of wired and wireless networks, from the branch or the farthest campus to your most central central system.
System Hardware:
The Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series is based on Cisco’s UADP 2.0 mini ASIC architecture and an internal ARM CPU architecture.
This allows the switch to run with the Cisco IOS-XE operating system, which enables the switch to support standard YANG models through NETCONF or RESTCONF and to run scripts natively within the switch.
Pervasive security
The new 9000 is backed by Cisco’s pervasive security portfolio
Trustworthy system
Native NetFlow for Cisco Stealthwatch® Analytics
Network as a Sensor/Network as an Enforcer

STACKING
Benefits of Stacking
Simplifies network design.
Utilizes all available up link bandwidth.
Allows the creation of resilient Layer 2 topologies based on link aggregation.
Eliminates the dependence of STP in Layer 2 access distribution layer(s).
Enables transparent server mobility, server High Available (HA) clusters.
Dual-homed servers operating in active-active mode.
Provides faster convergence upon link failure.
PHYSICAL STACK vs VIRTUAL STACKING (VSS - Virtual Switching System )
Physical Stacking System
Transforms standalone switches into single logical unit or group. This group of switches show the characteristics of a single switch but have the port capacity of the sum of the combined switches.
Virtual Switching System
Pools multiple Cisco Switches into one virtual switch, increasing operational efficiency, boosting non-stop communications, and scaling system bandwidth capacity.
SV (Stackwise Virtual) vs VSS (Virtual Switching System)
Stackwise Virtual (Terminology)
Virtual Switching System (Terminology)
Stackwise Virtual and VSS have same functionalities but just different implementation.
StackWise Virtual is supported on all Catalyst 9400 models and Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series.
Cisco DNA Expansion Pack
The Cisco DNA Expansion Pack is a flexible way to purchase Cisco ISE, Cisco DNA Spaces, Secure Network Analytics (Stealthwatch), ThousandEyes and other licenses, appliances, and services in one convenient bundle.
Enhance your Cisco networking solutions such as SD-Access, Zero Trust solutions, Encrypted Traffic Analytics (ETA), location analytics, and assurance.
You can add the pack to your Cisco DNA software licenses and choose the license count that fits your needs.
